WiMAX and Broadband Stimulus Money – BTOP Can Help?
By P.J. Louis.
Rural and underserved markets usually see advance services last in carriers that also serve dense (and highly profitable) urban markets. The BTOP can facilitate the deployment of advance commercially available technologies. The BTOP should not be funding technology research; it takes years to bring new commercially viable technology to the marketplace...

WiMax is Dead. Long Live WiMax?
By Rahul Gaitonde.
WiMax has always been seen as one of the ideal solutions to bring high-speed internet access to rural America, but it has yet to achieve its full potential. Dear Valued Customer;

Welcome to another edition of our monthly E-Newsletter. Your single source for information associated with the wire-line & wireless communications services industries.

The current issue will explore the $7.2 billion stimulus funds available through the Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) to expand broadband availability and adoption.  Specifically, we would like to focus our attention on the topics relevant to the wireless industry.

The first two articles discuss the two main competing technologies for wireless broadband deployment: Wimax and LTE.  Even though, LTE seems to be the winner in the overall technological 4G race, Wimax, in relation to the stimulus money, has the advantage of faster and cheaper deployment cost.

The last two articles discuss the current state of the broadband deployment and stimulus funds.  For the latest information on the current recipient of Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) and Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) funds, please click here.  For more information on the broadband stimulus programs, visit http://www.recovery.gov, http://www.broadband.gov and http://broadbandusa.gov.
