How to Test Your Data Center's Grounding System By John Higbie. Recognizing the importance of the grounding system, this presentation will cover the basics of two common methods of testing, present a one-line electrical diagram explanation of test theory, and discuss the common testing mistakes. Regardless of your role in construction and/or maintenance, you will learn ground testing concepts and how to evaluate testing results... Read More >>

400V: The New Frontier for Power Distribution in the Data Center By Richard Draper. As data centers clamor for ways to increase their power density at the rack level, the industry has taken a two-pronged approach of increasing both the current and voltage ratings of the distribution equipment. Cyberex introduces a revolutionary new remote power panel (RPP) design for the data center. This high-power RPP explores the new higher voltage power distribution frontier of 400 volts... 4160 Volts: The Green 480 By Mike Mosman This presentation explores the benefits of using 4160 volts, a medium voltage, instead of 480 volts, a low voltage, for electrical service entrance into large data centers. Such benefits include increased safety due to lower arc flash, economic value due to smaller feeder sizes, and greater dependability due to more reliable breaker operation... Read More >> |

Dear Valued Customer;
Welcome to another edition of our monthly E-Newsletter. Your single source for information associated with the wire-line & wireless communications services industries.
Continuing from the previous data center edition, we would like to highlight some presentations from the Spring Data Center World Conference & Expo. The overiding theme this year is energy i.e. how to control, manage, operate, and maintain the growing demands for energy intensive data centers. From best practices in ground testing by John Higbie, to the 400V product introduction by Richard Draper to 4160 Volt suggestion by Mike Mosman, the next generation of data center design has to contend with the ever-growing power intensive equipment and following best data center practices as recommended by Mark Levin.
For data center managers and operators, we highly recommend that you also read the journal article titled "How Does Your Data Center Measure Up? Energy Efficiency Metrics and Benchmarks for Data Center Infrastructure Systems" from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The research article outlines key metrics for measuring data center infrastructure efficiency.
